As the years went on, relations between the snake and the hamster cooled down. After each episode where the snake would eat a rat or some other rodent, things became progressively awkward. Soon, the two were like a bitter, old married couple rarely communicating with one another and sleeping at opposite ends of their small enclosure. Eventually the hamster moved away and became an insurance agent, and our snake was left a bitter old man fending for himself against the harsh truths of the world.
